Exhibition Guide

This exhibition features a selection of works by emerging artists inspired by Claude Monet's style. Landscapes woven with soft brushstrokes and a play of light, and the harmony of colors that capture the brilliance of the moment are presented from a perspective unique to the State Museum of Art.

The theme of the "moment of light" pursued by Monet, the gentle shimmering of the water, the changing seasons in the garden, and the gentle sunlight falling on the figures...these are all depicted by contemporary artists. At first glance, these touches seem to be common, yet each expresses "impressions" in its own unique interpretation.

Standing in front of his works, you will be enveloped in a peaceful atmosphere as if time is gently flowing by. This time, under the concept of "Lumière Musicale" (Music of Light), we will exhibit in Gallery 1 some of Monet's gems that inherit his world view to the present day.

We invite you to visit and experience the sparkling colors and quiet excitement.

The artists participating in this exhibition have deeply studied the techniques and philosophies of the Impressionist masters and pursue their own interpretation of the harmony of light and color.

One artist said, "The light of nature is like music that changes from moment to moment," delicately depicting the nuances of the changing seasons on canvas. In particular, his works featuring water lilies in the morning mist and piles of straw at dusk reinterpret with a modern sensibility the "brilliance of the moment" that Monet loved so much. Whenever he paints, he always sets up his easel outdoors and follows the actual changes in light as he paints.

Another artist advocates a "new impressionism" in the digital age, combining elements of digital art with traditional oil painting techniques. He combines the traditional oil painting technique with digital art elements to create experimental works in which color particles scattered like dots on the canvas create different impressions depending on the viewer's distance from the painting. His unique style was born from his desire to "approach the 'essence of light' that Monet pursued with tools that were not available in his time.

Furthermore, the artist, who specializes in portraits, expresses "the drama of light shining into a room" through a figure relaxing by a window. The artist's thin, delicate brushstrokes depict the sunlight shimmering on the model's skin through the trees and the glimmer of sunlight reflected on the table. The artist always plays the classical music of the 19th century, which Monet loved to listen to, to recreate the atmosphere of the time while painting.

Please enjoy the world of "Impression" of a new age, spun by poets of nature and light.

A total of 13 emerging artists spent three years on the project,
A competition of realistic paintings, all newly painted as new works.

Each artist"A Legacy for the Future"He asserts,
The exhibition will bring together over 100 large works of art.

This special project was conceived in 2005 by Shigeru Hayashida, the first director of the state museum.

In opening the museum, Hayashida wanted to "create an artistic legacy that would last forever in this area. He therefore commissioned selected artists to spend three years to create large works (size 100 or larger) that would become "masterpieces to be handed down to future generations.

Themes that each artist truly wants to express,
He put all of his skill and passion into it.
The resulting body of work became the foundation of today's Dousyu Art Museum.

Shigeru Hayashida is a contemporary artist known for his meticulously realistic style and deeply humanistic spirit. His work combines the rigorous techniques of classical painting with the philosophical thinking of contemporary art, and his painting style is often compared to that of Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci. His precise anatomical structures, soft rendering of light and shadow, and subtle portrayal of the facial expressions of his figures demonstrate a deep understanding of classical aesthetics.

Unlike da Vinci's scientific explorations, Lin Teng Mao emphasizes personal emotion and oriental flavor. His portraits are serene in color and misty in mood, creating a texture that transcends time and space, while his thematic works explore memory, solitude, and human universality through symbolic elements. His representative works, such as "Faded Manuscript" and "Gaze in the Mist," embody his pursuit of "coexistence of falsity and reality," and while inheriting the rational tradition of the Renaissance, he gives his paintings contemporary poetic metaphors.
